• Create an image that can be used later to set up the other player.
• Keep him guessing. Don’t be predictable.
• Don’t play every hand. A lot of poker players do. Be selective.
• Fold the small blind (to create a tight image).
• Don’t play poor cards (anything better than Q-8 is considered playable).
• If you are the low stack, don’t feel pressured to go all-in every hand. You are only 1 or 2 hands away from winning.
• Don’t call in the small blind (maybe occasionally). Either fold or raise (the exception to this is limping with a big hand).
• Trap with big hands and especially if you hit the nuts.
• Occasionally, if a player limps in on the small blind, raise it 3 or 4 times (simulating a very big hand). You may only be able to do this once in a while. Beware they may be trapping you.
• The first to bet will often win the hand.

If you get beat on a few hands, don’t let it bother you. Remember, if you are the bigger stack you only need one good hand to take your opponent out. Keep your focus. In heads up poker the key is to mix up your play. Keep your opponent guessing and you will see good results in your heads up poker game.
