Home Tournament Blind Structure
The following blind structure can be used for most home poker tournaments.
25/50——-30 min 50/100——30 75/150——20 (break 10) 100/200—–20 150/300—–20 200/400—–20 (break 10) 300/600—–20 500/1000—-20 600/1200—-20 (break 10) 800/1600—-20 1000/2000—20 1500/2000—15 2000/4000—15 3000/6000—15
Take the $25 chips off the table during the 2nd break and the $100 chips off the table after the 800/1600 level. Generally a tournament will run well if the early rounds are longer than the later rounds. As players are eliminated you want to keep the game moving at a decent pace to allow time for another tournament. Since there are less players later in a tournament you can see as many hands as in the earlier rounds.

I think you could even keep this game going faster. You might not want to many people waiting around sitting idle after getting taken out. You could keep the levels to 15 mins for the entire tourney.

I like the structure you are using. I will try it tomorrow night. Hosting a 2 table game…should be fun.

I like the structure of the blinds but after the second round if an ante was added that would keep the players going.

True. I think one that people like is for fast games. That way if they get knocked out fast they can get back in another before the night’s done.

Blinds are intreesting. I using 15 minute blinds but after an hour we would be at 50-100 just like you. Bottom line is, everyone in your tourney plays with the same blind structure so its fair. And its you r tourney.

It may take a few tournaments to find out which structure is the right one for your group. Do you want it fast paced so others can get in on another poker game or are you going to make one tournament last the night?

When we have a poke night we try to always fit 2 games, the first with 15 min blind and 6k chips and a main game with 20 min blinds and 12k chips.

That sounds like a nice setup. You probably are looking at 1.5 hours a game then.

I agree. I like keeping the time consistent throughout the tournament.

I would say that after the 4th or 5th level you would ad a small or big blind ante amount. This really helps keep the tourney within a certain time frame.

30 minutes for the first few levels is too long. 10-15 max…unless there is just a small group of 5-7 players, then you might want to let it run according to the above structure.

Yeah for a small group 1 table are great. Multi table home poker tourneys are fun and very competitive. 2 tables usually produce better quality play.

We have tried antes in our game and they seem to create a lot of work, reminding players to post. Our group opted to drop the antes.

In the create tournament window you should be able to change the structure.
