Hey guys
What do you recommend for number of chips per player for home games
do you recommend all chips to have the same vaule and for lets say $20 you get 100 chips (multicolor)
or B) do you think $20 gives you some white, some blue some red etc with differnet values?
THank you

i personally like to play with different denominations… $25, $100, $500, $1000. that way you can play with a bigger total and have longer games
for a tournament of 16 players a 500 piece chip set with 4 different colour chips would be enough for a $5000 stack each, opposed to a 100 stack with no denoms. plus enough to change those bloody 25's when the blinds go up.
150 x $25, 100 x $100, 100 x $500, 75 x $1000
hope that helps.

Actually you make a good point. I enjoy having a larger chip stack and being able to sit a bit before getting into the action heavily. I think when you only have a small amount of chips it forces you to make a move when you might not want to. I have seen this at the local poker room and in Las Vegas. Especially in Vegas, they like to keep the amount of chips really low to entice action. It’s not a good game because the newbie tourist like players are making bad calls and you get beaten easily. Since you are forced to make calls and plays with such a small stack. If you ended up playing that player in a larger starting stack game, you could easily sit and wait to trap or make a move on them.
Just my opinion.

I like playing with the 3 or 4 colors if your playing with experienced players, but with friends who are just having an occasional game all the same value then it's easier play and understand.

Deep Stack games are our preference, cos after a couple of shots the boys get a bit stupid so it tends to slow down the all-in move too early.
5 x $25
20 x $100
10 x $ 500
20 x $1000
5 x $5000

its good to start with 3 or 4 values to keep your chips manageable but u also need to be able to chip up as the blinds increase to remove the valueless chps that occur once blinds climb

The pub poker league I play in starts with 1500 in the following denominations:-
4 x 25 = 100
2 x 50 = 100
3×100 = 300
