Step 1: The $11 No Limit Sit N Go Tournament
Required Bankroll: $500
Estimated ROI: 20-25%
Speed versus Regular
The following method for beating $ 11 SNGs can be applied to both Speed and Regular tournaments. During step 1, we recommend that you try both tournament types, then stick to the one you feel most comfortable with. Before deciding, you should keep in mind the following points.
- Regular tournaments generally last about twice as long as Speed tournaments (65 minutes vs. 35 minutes).
- Regular tournaments have less variance. That is, because you are seeing more hands per level, you can wait for big hands. As a result, you will more consistently make money. However, because you are playing twice as many Speed tournaments per hour, your dollars per hour may be slightly higher in Speeds.
- As a general rule, if you are a more conservative player, start with the Regulars. If you aren’t intimidated by the possibility of greater bankroll swings, start with the Speeds.
Rules of the Sit N Go Tournament guide
These rules will apply to all future steps.
Rule 1: The WxBB Rule
For now, keep in mind that, if your chip stack consists of more than lOxBB, never push all-in without a raiser in front of you. Instead, raise the recommended amount. If your chip stack consists of less than lOxBB, go all-in instead of raising. The reasoning behind this is pot odds and giving your self a chance to double up. Players will likely call a small stack with less than premium cards.
Rule 2: The 3xBlinds Rule
If your chip stack consists of less than three times the SB+BB, you should go all-in at one point before paying your blinds again.
Levels 1-3
Play the following hands in any position.
- With AA – bet 3xBB – if reraised to you – Reraise or push all-in
- With KK – bet 3xBB – if reraised to you – Push all-in
- With QQ – bet 3xBB – if reraised to you – Push all-in
- With JJ down to 22 just call – if reraised to you – Fold
- With AK(s) call – if reraised to you – Fold or push all-in
On the flop, do the following:
- When you hit top pair or better on the flop, never bet less than 75% of the pot.
- If someone raises into you and you have top pair/top kicker or better, go all-in.
- Slow-play only sets or better.
- Fold anything worse than top pair/top kicker to any bet.
